The Lunar New Year is 23 January 2012 this year, and it is the Year of the Dragon, a very important event in the Chinese mythology. This is Cambodia, not China, but many of the people have Chinese ancestry and almost as many people celebrate the Lunar New Year here as they do in China, even though Cambodia has its own Khmer New Year in April.

Preparations

Everything must be new and there are many necessary traditional accoutrements for celebrating the lunar new year so many shops make sure the decorations are readily available to the population of Chinese ancestry.

Decorations

Every home must have decorations but Chinese-owned businesses decorate, too. Really it's a moot distinction since most families live where they work.
