16 April 2013

New Year display at the palace

At the royal palace, this royal viewing stand faces the river. It is normally adorned with a picture of the king but now displays a symbol of the new year angel.
Ceremony at a wat

For many people, especially the wealthy and well-connected, a visit to this influential wat by the royal palace on the waterfront is part of the new year happenings.
Still leaving town

Most people left Phnom Penh three or four or five days ago, but those who had to work or were otherwise delayed are still leaving town and heading for their home villages. The van drivers double the prices during the holidays.
Riding a remarque out of town

For those whose home village is not so far away, these remarques, pulled by motorcycles, offer a less expensive way to get out of town.
