Villa in Phnom Penh

Neighborhood Photos

Replacing many of the old traditional wooden Khmer-style houses in Phnom Penh are concrete "villas," huge houses enclosed by high walls.  TheY don't add much to the aesthetics of the city, but some people are getting lots of money and this is a way to invest it safely.  The family can live in the villa themselves, or, even better, they can find some foreigners who will pay well to live there.  This villa is across the potholed, unpaved street from where I live.

Looking out my window, I have noticed dozens of people stopping to rest or talk on the paved walk in front of this villa.  Here are some of their pictures.
