Trip to United States

5 June to 7 July 2011

(Sunday)

This morning I preached at the masses at St. Margaret Mary Church in Louisville, Kentucky.  In the afternoon I was planning to go to Cincinnati to visit my sister and her family but their schedules had become rather erratic so we held off on the visit until a later date.  I then ran around a little to do various tasks with other brothers and sisters.

St. Margaret Mary Church is the Catholic community in which my cousin Judith English is a very active member.  She has led groups in the Just Faith program and is a leader in the social action activities of the parish.  She approached the parish to see if it would be possible for me to speak there, and Fr. Steve Pohl, the pastor, agreed and welcomed me this weekend.

St. Margaret Mary Church is a very active parish, with many different groups, committees, and programs, and they gave me a very positive reception as I talked about the mission Christian people receive in baptism, Cambodia, and the Maryknoll Lay Missioners.

When I speak in a parish, the Maryknoll Lay Missioners sends a pamphlet called Voices of Compassion which tells stories of lay missioners in various countries, and I encourage the people to read the stories and then pass on the pamphlet.  This week, though, the pamphlets didn't arrive in time so the pastor promised the people they will be distributed next weekend.

My niece Sara, a sophomore at Murray State University when school resumes in August, returned from a study program in Argentina this morning.  She had planned to go a running camp right away but delayed her departure until tomorrow so I had the chance to see her before I left tomorrow also.

Then I went over to my brother's house to take a graduation gift to his son.
